ReplyDeleteThis time, I watched the TV drama “Desperate Housewives first episode” on the internet for about 40 minutes.
This drama is the story of the life of four women. One day, their neighbor Mary shot herself with a pistol. After her death, there was a funeral and her neighbor Susan and other women were attended. Susan got divorced with her husband end live with her daughter. Rinette is used to be a career woman, but now she raises four children and leads a busy life. Gabriel is an ex- model and her husband is very rich. However, she is having an affair with the man who is a gardener. Bury is a charisma housewife, but she asked to get divorce by her husband.
When I watched this movie, I guessed the meaning of the words from context. Also, I paid attention to their expression so that I can understand what they said.
I think I could understand 70 percent of the drama. However, it was difficult for me to catch the word.

ReplyDeleteOn Saturday, I went to the Universal Studio Hollywood with my friends. I went there by bus and train. I could ride almost all attraction in a day. Universal Studio Japan and Hollywood has a lot of difference such as attraction. Therefore, I could enjoy a lot. I want to go there again if I have time. In addition, I went to Disney land on Sunday. I was impressed by the show called “fantasmic” which was held at night. I t was very beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI assigned this weekend to the trip for Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, I stayed the Venetian Hotel which is luxury hotel. The every room of this hotel is suite room, so I could enjoy staying at a spacious room with various luxury furnishings. Therefore, I could enjoy very fantastic night view of Las Vegas from room. I watched the show by blue man group. That show is consisted of skills of all their own, then they expressed unique humorous story and musical story. I could enjoy a lot. So I want to go there with my friends someday.

ReplyDeleteI watched Bryan Stevenson: We need to talk about an injustice at TED. It was about 20 minutes long.
Bryan Stevenson is African American and a lawyer. He is concerned about the relationship between justice system and race. He claims that rich people who commit crimes are treated more lightly than the innocent poor. This problem involves prejudice. For example, when a victim is white, the possibility of death penalty becomes 11 times as much as that when a victim is black, also when a suspect is black, the possibility of death penalty becomes 22 times as much as that when a suspect is white. He warns people not to be indifferent to the problem like this and beeves that a characteristic of society is decided by how the society treat the poor and prisoners.
It was hard for me to get what he was saying because he spoke fast, and his speaking involved some technical terms. so I watched this video taking notes. I could understand 80% with twice listening.

ReplyDeleteOn last weekends, I went to Las Vegas. It was my first visit. My main purpose in Las Vegas was to see the Bellagio's fountain. Then I decided to stay at Bellagio Hotel. It was really beautiful hotel, and I was almost crying when I watched the fountain show. At night, every buildings got bright, and the streets got crowded. I was so excited with that. Even though I couldn't gamble because of my age, I had a awesome experience. I'll never forget this wonderful trip.

ReplyDeleteThis last weekend I visited San Francisco and Santa Barbara thanks to a trip organized by California Tour. A lot of people before I went there told me that San Francisco is the most european city in California. I agree with them about, for example, the weather, that remember me London. I loved the particular view that I have had when I saw the Golden Gate bridge : I was very surprised! I was disappointed , instead, by Santa Barbara because I thought it was cleaner. In conclusion, I want to go back as soon as possible, but I want to spent more Times there.

ReplyDeleteI watched TED talks which title is "Candy Chang: Before I die I want to…" for about 24 minutes.
After the speaker lost her mother, she came to think about "death" a lot and felt deep proud of time that she had. She struggled to maintain this perspective in her daily life, and she put a big chalkboard around an unoccupied house. She wrote a question; "Before I die, I want to" and many people wrote the answer. Candy set the board in many countries to give opportunities to have a voice. From these answers, she realized preparing for death is one of the most empowering things we can do.
I watched this video more than once to find key words, and also watched for finding the meaning of information.
I think I could understand this video about 75% because the speaker talked not so fast. However, there were many difficult words and I had to guess many times.

ReplyDeleteOn last weekend, I went to Disneyland. Actually I went there last month, but I had more wonderful time. I ate a lot of foods and took many attractions. Also, I took a photo with Mickey Mouse! At 9:00PM, I watched the show named "Phantasmic". This show was very beautiful and exciting, so I like it rather than Japanese version. When we exit, we watched fire works in the tram. I really enjoyed the time in Disneyland, so I want to go again with my family.

ReplyDeleteI watched an episode of the TV series named "Top Gear" for about 40 minutes.
In this TV series there are three men that prove different kind of cars, and then they compare them each other. In this episode Hammond compare the BMW M5 F1 to a BMW M1 and shows a lot of differences between the two models. Then the trio discuss about the new Bentley 4x4 and Lamborghini Aventador J. After that, a special guest, Kimi Raikkonen, tries to beat the invincible driver "The Stig", without success.
I believe I understand about 85% because, even if the speaker uses a lot of engineering details, he speaks slowly.
I watched this video once, and I look for a lot of details and some specific words bacause I'm particularly interested in mechanical engineering.

ReplyDeleteI went to Getty Center and San Diego with my friend on Saturday. I lived with her for the weekend. On Sunday, I went to Sea World with her, and we saw a lot of animals' shows. Yesterday, she drove me back, and we went to MOCA in downtown.

ReplyDeleteI watched NBC nightly news in internet. This video is about 20minutes.
Today’s news had a special section reports on democratic national convention. It is holding in Carolina and is very significant for a struggling camp of Obama. They are trying to describe how to improve economic, however a camp of Romney is using slogan functionally to disturb a camp of Obama. In this convention, Obama’s wife and Bill Clinton will make a speech to help, so this is a kind of turning point for this election. Next news was about a storm, Isaac. Obama has been to Louisiana to inspect the damage. It is difficult to clean up all debris, then 65000people have to live in under such a circumstance for a long time.
I watched this video, being cautious for key words and listening intonation for meaning. I could understand 80% of this video.

ReplyDeleteI watched "5 common mistakes in spoken English" on Educational Youtube. It took about 30 minutes for me.
Summary:
In this video, a speaker is giving a lecture about five common mistakes in spoken English. First one is other and another. Although "An" means "one", it's very common mistake to use "another" to not singular things. Second one is make and do. People are sometimes confused about these two. "Do" is used for an action while "make" is used for having something. Third, equal and fair. "Equal" is used for the same 2 parts divided from one thing while "fair" indicates the same things in quality. The forth one is fun(enjoying yourself) and funny("the joke is funny"). The fifth one is come/go back. They are different depending on where a speaker is.
I could understand this movie about 90% because it's for English learners. I challenged not to look at the video but to listen to it.

I went to Disneyland last Sunday! It was my first time to go there in my life; in fact, I've never been to even Tokyo Disneyland although my friend, a Taiwanist, has been there, so we went to Disney California Adventure. I didn't know what Disneyland was like to be. My friend likes roller coasters, so she took me to a very terrible roller coaster. Honestly, it was terrible. While riding it, I kept silent. I'll never ride such a thing, but the park itself was fantastic for me.

ReplyDeleteI listened a conversation at BBC Learning English.I clicked 'The English we speak'.There were many kind of spoken english styles like a idiom.Today title was 'finding your feet'. It was a dialogue between Helen and Rosie. They illustrated finding your feet's meaning by some example,and they speaked their everyday life. They was doing a salsa class,but Rosie was still getting used to salsa. The dialogue says we can say like this "i'm still finding my feet" in that situation. for example,It's my story. I've been living in los angeles for 1 month, but i still can't speak English very well. I'm still finding my feet.
It took time about 20minutes. I listend it twice.
I could understand 100% of it.
Actually,I haven't been feeling well since i came here.

ReplyDeleteI watched TED Talk: Ze Frank's nerdcore comedy twice, and it takes me about 40 minutes.
The speaker is an amazing man because he can use some simple words to make audiences laugh. He presents some internet interaction which are very popular and interesting. I think he is a very good at speech because he can always control the whole situation.
This video is very difficult for me because the speaker use many hard words or some history. As a result, I listened it twice. The first time I got 50% understanding, and the second tome I understand 75%.

ReplyDeleteI watched Slang in English by English Education for 20 minutes.
By watching this movie, I could learn many meanings of “blow”. We can use “blow” when we want to express “wind”, “hit”, “die”, and “lose”. “Blow out” means “put out”. “Blow up” means “explode”. The style of this video is kind of class, so it’s very interesting.
I listened it very carefully to catch what he says, and I could understand almost all content.
I have been to San Diego last long weekend. The following places are where I visited and some experiences:

2.Old town: traditional building which are Spanish style.
3.Coronado beach: a very very beautiful beach, and there is a very famous hotel named "hotel del Coronado."
4.Sea world: lots of amazing shows and many sea animals.
5.Balboa park: the biggest city park in the United State! There are about 15 museums and a zoo in this park!

My plan of last weekend was to go to Las Vegas, but I couldn’t reserve a tour, so I went shopping to Ontario Mills with my friends. It is very far, so we took a train to go there. It took about three hours. I bought a lot of clothes for my family. Every clothes are very cheap compared with that in Japan. I hope they like them. I was tired, but I really enjoyed shopping.
Last Sunday I went to the Santa Monica again, because I thought that I needed to buy some souvenir like clothes, and I have seen many people who looked like buskers, some of them were dancing and some of them were playing the guitar. This is my first time to stay in Santa Monica at night, I found a lot of beautiful scenery like the sunset in the beach. What a beautiful scenery that I haven't seen that!

ReplyDeleteI watched “Candy Chang: Before I die I want to...” on CNN video for 30 minutes.
The story is about a woman who decided to change her life by sharing public places. After an unexpected death of a woman who was a mother to her, she started thinking about death and the relationships between people. She decided to share the opinions between people. She changed a side of the walls of an abandon building near her house into a giant chalks work. On the wall, there were a lot of sentences and blanks like “Before I die, I want to ________________________.” Everyone who walked by can pick up a chalk and share their thoughts. She wanted everyone to cherish time and the relationships between people, and made better places and lives.
This video is much slower than others I have watched, but I still watched for three times. In the first time, I only listened to it. I began to take notes from the second time. It is really great that I am able to understand 90% of this video.

ReplyDeleteI went to San Francisco,Yosemite National Park and hearst castle during the long weekend by bus.This is my first time join the bus tour.Although I visit a lot of places at a lot of places,I can't enjoy every places very much because of the time.I amaze by the spectacular view in Yosemite National Park and enjoy the food in Fisherman's Wharf.This weekend is like a quick browse of the western part of US.I hope I have another chance to enjoy these places in the future.

ReplyDeleteI watched TED TALK “Embrace the remix” which is spoken by Kirby Ferguson; I totally watched this video about 20mins.
Almost all the new things in the world are remix, which are songs, products, arts and so on. People sometimes remix things insensibility, but some people are not. He gave us examples about what kind of things are remixed or what kind of people are remixing. He told us about what are the form of creativity and what are the good intentions.
I watched this video two times with subtitle, but I could get 60% of this video, because his speaking is quit fast also I didn’t know well about the people who he used as examples.
I want to so many places in these holidays like Premium Outlet Mall, County Market, Farmers Market, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Grammy Museum, Santa Monica, Malibu Beach and so on. I visited all of these places with my roommate and Michael Lee who is the student assistant of UCLA and he took us to these by his open car! That was awesome traveling days in LA, and I could buy many souvenirs for my family and friends. I liked the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Grammy Museum, so if I have a time, I want to visit there one more time before I leave.

ReplyDeleteI watched a documentary video of RealMadrid which is one of the greatest football team in the world. And also, this team is one of the three strongest team in Spain. They all are good rival.
It's about 20mins.
This video explain about the team RealMadrid.
The team RealMadrid is the group of white uniform. Because of this fact, they are called "Los Blancos". This nickname of the team means "The Whites" in Spanish. And their fans are called "Madridista".
They based in Madrid, Spain and remarkably strong. Moreover, they are rich.
Especially, the team has many talented player. For example, latest years, a FW player Christiano Ronaldo is famous and popular among people of all age. Of course, it because his skillful performance in that games.
I could understand 85% of the story. Actually I like this team, so I was already interested in that facts. However, this time I found many new facts. That's why, I think it was nice oppotunity to know the RealMadrid better.
If I watch this kind of video next time, I'll search about that team in advance. Then, I'll be able to catch the meaning of the video.
Fun things I did in this weekend by Kohei Nojiri
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I went to Las Vegas with my friends (including Nodoka and Atsushi). My friends stayed luxury hotel, while I stayed cheap hotel because of lack of money.
I think Las Vegas is very peculiar but exiting. For example almost shop and building opened all night.
And I gambled at casino for the first time in my life. Some people says “Casino is waste of the money” so I’m ready to lose some money. However, fortunately I won some money at casino. This must be what called “Beginner’s Luck”!!
And I eat luxury lunch the next day and I’m very satisfied with Las Vegas.
I wish I could come back here someday.

Education is just not accessible in some place such as South Africa.
She wants to educate all over the world, so she think it important to offer a top quality education to everyone around the world for free.
Online course content has been available for a while.
And this allows students to follow a much more personalized curriculum.
If we could offer a top quality education to everyone around the world for free,
What would that do? She emphasized three things.
First it would establish education as a fundamental human right,
Second, it would enable lifelong learning.
Finally, this would enable a wave of innovation, because amazing talent can be found anywhere.

My Labor Day Hanako.H
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome because I had met my cousins and family. At first, I went to my sister's dorm near UC Irvine and enjoy talking. After that, I went to see my relative and their baby. Baby was a girl and so cute. She hardly smiled, but the time when we were going to leave them, she finally smiled for us.
Then, I and my older sister went Torrance which is her hometown. She showed me a lot of places. Especially, TRADER JOE'S and Del Amo shopping center are nice for me.
I had a wonderful time with them.

Fun things I did on weekend
I went to Mt Hollywood Hiking Trail in Griffith park to enjoy hiking. On the way to go there, waiting for a Dash bus at Vermont/Sunset station, I talked with a guy from Europe. He was with some of his friends, and they also were waiting for the bus. The bus comes there every 35 or 40 minutes, so we were getting tired of waiting for it. While waiting, We talked a lot and became friends. I went to Griffith observatory with them and after that, I went hiking.I walked along the trail seeing the view from there. It was awesome. A few hours later, I finally arrived at the top of Mt Hollywood. I took a hike for more than 5 hours.

I watched "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!"
Horton the elephant, the hero of that movie found a speck with a faint sound like a voice flaoting in the air. "Who" is so tiny world that we cannot see. Horton became friends with people in "Who" and he protects it from dangerous. It's very funny story.
